EXPERIENCE

From 2002 to 2007, Manuel worked as a Patent Examiner in the European Patent Office in The Hague (Netherlands) in the sector of telecommunications, where, apart from searching and examining patents, he took part in classes and working committees about patents in Europe. In the previous years he had worked in various Telecommunications companies such as Telefónica and Vodafone.

He is patent consultant since 2007 and joined H&A in 2010. He now heads the Telecommunications and Software division in H&A’s patent department. Apart from the managerial tasks involved in his job, Manuel also deals with the processing of patent applications (patent drafting, replying to office actions, etc), represents our clients before the European Patent Office (attending Oral Proceedings in examination and opposition) and writes infringement and patentability reports.

He has tutored various training courses for professionals in the field of patents. Currently Manuel is a teacher in the following courses:

  • Master in European Patent Law, organized by the Centre for International Studies of Industrial Property CEIPI, in Madrid as well as in Barcelona.
  • Practical Course for Preparing for the European Qualifying Examination (EQE), organized by the Patent Centre of the University of Barcelona and by the Spanish Patent and Trade Mark Office.

Manuel has also given tutorials on the subject matter of patents:

  • “Software protection. Software as patent”, organized by the University of Almería.
  • “Software Protection”, organized by the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.
  • “Strategic use of patents”, organized by the Spanish Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX).

He co-authored the book “Patent Infringement Worldwide”, Publisher: Carl Heymanns Verlag.
